Water Based Degreasers
Water based degreasers are those which are typically made with or can be diluted with water. They often have water soluble solvents (butyl) which breakdown grease and oils. There are two basic divisions of these products. Solvent based, and surfactant based. Solvent based are typically garage floor, engine, and parts cleaners and are your heavy duty haulers. They will break up soils, but when the solution sits for a short period of time they will release the oil and it will float or be re-deposited. A surfactant based degreaser (often called a non-butyl degreaser) works better on processed oils like food, fuels, smoke, diesel soot, etc. They also will not release the oil for long periods of time and are excellent for cleaning vertical walls, buses, restaurants, cooking hoods, etc .
